About the Book

"Love is a word humanity has tried to define throughout the history of civilization…[Sumner Gage Whittier's] book of stirring sonnets proves conclusively LOVE lasts forever. Whittier's sonnets are truly inspirational. Personally speaking, after reading his sonnets dedicated to his beautiful wife Jessie, I found myself recalling how I first met my wife Marilyn, our first kiss, and how LOVE inspired us to create our own world of blissful love. Thank you Sumner G. Whittier for awakening our hearts." --Ray Barron, Boston's Post-Gazette

About the Author

Sumner G. Whittier first met his wife in the second grade in Everett, Massachusetts. They graduated high school in the same class, and some years after college, on Christmas Day, 1943, they married. They had three lovely daughters: Jaye, a lawyer; Jill, a doctor; and her twin Janis, a nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital Cancer section. Mr. Whittier never stopped saying "I love you" to the woman who stood by him through it all. This collection of sonnets represents the love Mr. Whittier still feels for his wife of 38 years, now 22 years after her passing. During his career, Sumner Whittier worked as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, and as head of the National Veterans Administration, and he has met every president since Herbert Hoover, and visited every continent including Antarctica. The recipient of many honorary degrees, Mr. Whittier now has a public school and a street named after him, and his birthday has been declared Sumner G. Whittier day for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Mr. Whittier now lives in Ellicott City, Maryland.
