About the Book

Imagine skiing down a slope on Mt. Hood when one ski tangles with an obstruction under the snow. While cartwheeling down the hill, your whole life flashes before your eyes and that’s the last thing you can remember as you awaken twenty years later. That happened to Hugh Williams and this book relates the novel and unusual manner in which he was able to retrieve the highlights of those years he missed.

He enters into an agreement with the staff of the nursing home where he had been confined for so many years. Hugh had lots to share with his caretakers as he had taken so many wonderful trips in his earlier years, one of which involved a trip across the Soviet Union in 1972 and included a 5,000 mile trip on the Trans- Siberian Railroad. Having kept a daily journal of this adventure, he was able to bring the trials and tribulations of a visit to communism to life. His interest in politics is borne out in every chapter and if one likes history, geography and government, occasionally sprinkled with a little humor, this book is a must read.

About the Author

Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 10, 1927. Attended school in that city and enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1944, sailing on troop ships to the South Pacific and Europe. After a short stint in the army, migrated to the Pacific Northwest in 1946 where he attended Vanport College, forerunner of Portland State. Was employed in the transportation industry most of life and traveled extensively, world wide. Enjoyed avocations of politics, writing and stand up comedy. Was a candidate for congress on four occasions and referred to as a political activist. Always loved writing and has been a frequent contributor of letters to editors all over the country. Is probably patriotic to a fault and constantly trying to write warnings about how far America has drifted from her Constitution? Was invited to teach capitalism in Siberia upon the fall of communism and has now made a total of eight trips to that part of the world. His conservatism and disdain for communism sneaks through this work that spans fifty years.
