This book is a must read for anyone interested in working with people who are mentally ill. This includes nurses, social workers, psychologists, various therapists, and other support staff. About the Author

Pat Beattie has long been an advocate for persons with mental retardation and/or mental illness. She began working at an institution for mentally retarded at the age of seventeen. After twelve years she transferred to a state hospital for the mentally ill and continued to work at several state hospitals for another twelve years before transferring into the Department of Corrections for the last ten years of her career.
