About the Book

How does a European woman in the first half of the twentieth century use her capacity in a male-oriented business world? How can Mizzi find a way to prove herself, when she is forever ridiculed by her family? How can she allow herself to fall in love, when the men, who propose to her, do not suit her domineering father? No matter how difficult, Mizzi has to find a way to overcome the hurdles, thrown in her path. Experiencing WWI as a young girl has steeled her to face the arrival of WWII.

About the Author

Most of Ingrid Toth’s life, creative writing has been her passion, which finally led her to this—her first—novel. She has written short stories and poetry for local papers in Hawaii and California. “Light Within Despair” is a work of fiction, even though it depicts actual persons, based on the author’s Viennese family. Heartbreaking or cheerful, these recollections have compelled Ingrid Toth to share this story, a historical drama in the first half of the twentieth century. European culture, politics and turmoil of war are the backdrop of the main character, Mizzi Wolf.
