About the Book

Final Words I have been describing my life story within the context of words that most people used but seldom understood (or mistakenly applied). Redefining words, such as intolerant, arrogant, prejudice, moral fortitude, moral values, pugnacious, obstinate, graciousness, inquisitive, any number of words used to describe a person becomes meaningless. Everything I have done was experienced in so many forms of action, constantly adapting to a different environment. What I mean by this is you always encounter all kinds of situations that you have to use words to fit the situation and the environment. Words you encounter every day that people use for or against you. The concept of words addressed to you sometimes can never by fully understood in this newly adopted environment. Daniel Webster would turn in his grave if he heard the word “lie” or “lying” used in political correctness to mean “honest mistake”. “Stealing” could mean “government appropriation” and the politicians would get away with it without contempt. People have become so desensitized by politicians’ standard practice that immoral actions are now a standard part of modern society. I used to take politicians’ words seriously; they made all kinds of promises during campaign season, but when they got seated in their respected position, their promises become vague rhetoric, or as a sailor would say, “cock and bull words.” Some of these politicians use words just like second-hand car salesmen. They made all kinds of promises, but seldom or never delivered once the car was sold. I moderately formed my opinion of others that I did not think so highly of politicians. Many appeared great until you knew them personally. They have their weaknesses as greed permeates their heart or head. This redefinition always happened to foreign born who came to this country, trying to assimilate into the American way of life and trying to become an American. As I said before, Americans were good teachers of the good, the bad and the ugly. I feel bad that some of the foreigners followed the bad part of American society with the attitude that because everybody is doing it, it is OK. Living in this great country, the United States of America, a multi-cultural society, you can appreciate the freedom to speak your mind, and agree or disagree without fear “sometimes” of your neighbor or the authorities. I came to this country with nothing, but was given the right to pursue happiness with the fortitude of my philosophy and values. Most foreigners who came to this country experienced difficulties, hardship, and adjustment to the American way of life, but later on enjoyed opportunities. I love this country for what it stands and I hope the future generation keeps the moral values of their forefathers, based the foundation that makes this country unique from other nations. The generosity of the people of this country is one of their best traits. Everywhere you go throughout this vast land, people are always helpful in so many ways. One of the strange phenomena celebrated in most cities is called “Happy Hour”, where people gather in a bar and get food to eat for free. You never see this strange phenomenon in other countries. It is strange that most foreigners who attain their U.S. citizenship are the most avid supporters of U.S. Constitution. Their love for this country makes them willing to die to for it. For my compatriots who came to this country as “Blue Seals”, how did you rate yourself? I hope you contributed your best, a “well done” job as a good steward, my friend, and I hope you became a faithful citizen of this great country. After all, we paid a good price with our youth and hard work. For those who came later, learn the lessons from your former patriots and countrymen who paved the way for you. Who educated the citizens of this great country that Filipinos can assimilate and can contribute to society as good citizens. I believe that you can always find the good in any individual,
