About the Book

What does it take to become a real Hawkeye? What do you do when your home is destroyed by a storm? From Little Hawk to Hawkeye is a children´s picture book adventure of a young hawk, Little Tater (LT), who seeks to find answers to these questions. Even though he faces some serious obstacles, LT does not give up his dream to be like Uncle Herky, the mascot for the University of Iowa. Following a windstorm, he becomes lost in the forest and tries to find his dad(Big Tate)and Uncle Herky. On his journey,he runs into the ´Wild Pigskin Reserve´ where he meets the Nittany Lion, the Northwestern Wildcat, the Wisoconsin Badger, and the Michigan Wolverine. They, too, are recovering from the storm. Sport fans of all ages, but especially those in the elementary grades, will enjoy discovering how LT´s courage and determination gain the respect of his dad and Uncle Herky and qualify him to be a ´real Hawkeye.´

About the Author

From Little Hawk to Hawkeye Linda Reuter (‘writer’) combines her love for the outdoors and for the Iowa Hawkeyes when creating her children’s fictional adventure, From Little Hawk to Hawkeye. It is a great book for young Hawkeye fans, for those that enjoy listening to others read as well as those that read on their own. She hopes her book also helps inform readers about several other teams in Iowa’s conference. As a lifetime Iowa resident, she retired in 2000 after first teaching Family Consumer Sciences at New Hampton High School and then counseling at Wapsie Valley Community School. Her main goal for retirement is to enjoy activities that she did not take the time to do while working. This goal has been realized many times over while taking drawing and painting classes at Hawkeye Community College, completing a correspondence class in children’s writing, and attending sport activities with her family. In her spare time, she sings with the Jesup Singers at local care facilities. She has also completed the illustrations for her daughter’s (Amy Bucknell) book, Iowa Hawkeye Football Trivia for Children.
