God’s purpose to bless mankind is revealed in the covenants which he enacted with human beings in the course of history. Such divine covenants are vehicles for man to enter into the purposes of God. They define the inter-personal, intimate, love-relationship which God has always intended to have with man. Through divine covenants, God releases his heavenly reward, divine power, and blessings for man’s enjoyment and blessing; and calls forth the earth to divine order and fruitfulness. The blessings of all covenants prior to the New Covenant lie stored up in Christ. It is in the New Covenant that all the blessings of the previous covenants are revealed and manifested in their full eschatological reality. Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant, which was established and divinely legislated upon qualitatively superior promises far exceeding the Old Testament promises. Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant means that he is the person and the medium in which the disposition of God is made effective and imparted to mankind. Therefore, when Jesus said, “This is my blood of the New Covenant,” he was anticipating the ratification of the New Covenant prophesied in Jer. 31: 31-34, through his own blood. The New Covenant which Jesus referred to was the disposition and eternal purpose in the heart of God for mankind’s total blessing. Through the enactment of the New Covenant, mankind has been reconciled to God to experience the glory of God’s being and worship him as Lord and king over all.

Dr. Oliver Vanderpuye is the Pastor of Glory Salvation and Praise Ministries in Austin, Texas. For the past twenty years, he has ministered in Europe, Africa, and the United States. His anointed Bible-teaching has been recognized by many. He has taught systematic theology, pneumatology, and Christology from a charismatic perspective over the past ten years in two Bible Colleges.
