Author’s Biography www.arttbiz.com artbz@bellsouth.net Mari’ (MaRye’) Renn, born in Louisville, Kentucky, taught and worked with nursing home residents aged to 105, and severally abused children for a total of fourteen years. “Paint This, Write That,” is a collection of successful ideas that I have been working with children and adults to help break the communication barrier for their better understanding in the world around them. My belief is in the power within us to heal, grow, and survive the abuse that the world throws at anyone at any age and to build upon that power. This is one tool to build upon the opportunity to talk, write and share about what happened in their life in a non-threatening way. My passion is retraining abused horses since I was fourteen, I paint any type of subject which means I am an eclectic artist, I love social commentary and working with foster, and abused children with an excitement for nature. • I studied at the Art Students League in New York City. I have traveled to Paris, Rome, Florence, and France to study Roman architecture, painting and sculpture. Associates Degree and Bachelors of Arts BA – Cum Laude • In Arizona, for seven years I worked with adults using art therapy techniques and achieved a lifetime certification to teach art therapy as well as in photography, painting and drawing in Community Colleges anywhere in Arizona. Now, I am a community activist artist and educator in Kentucky. • This book is based upon my lifelong experiences. A percentage of the royalties go to two organizations closest to my heart, the Brightside Wiche Award which is an environmental award for schools and Maryhurst Inc., an agency that takes care of teen foster and abused children for 166 years. “You are such a gifted person” Judy Lambeth CEO Maryhurst Inc. “For almost 25 years Brightside has been engaging the next generation in learning opportunities to help them understand the role they can play as good environmental stewards. We are so pleased that a portion of the proceeds from this book will go towards Brightside programs that help create outdoor classroom opportunities and help keep our community clean and green.” Cynthia Knapek Executive Director Brightside “Mari' has a gift for facilitating the healing process through art, a true gift for the Louisville community” Ashley Cecil, Program Manager at Louisville Visual Arts Association.
