About the Book
Yes, our lives, Minette’s and mine had always been very different. They continued to be different even now, I thought a little enviously. Minette had been pampered and spoiled and given everything she had ever wanted. I did not suffer want, but there were many times when I asked for a new dress and was denied. Still, I was happy. That is, I was happy until both my parents died when I was fourteen years old. Since that time happiness has been only a vaguely remembered dream.
