About the Book

Poetry became my passion as a child growing up on farms in Kansas and Missouri. Being one of nine siblings helped create many characters and settings for my poetry. Thus, most of these selections are from personal experiences and meaningful friendships.   As you leaf through the pages of this book, you will find whimsical, nostalgic, mysterious and sentimental poems. In particular, poems referencing World War ll brought many memories and emotions to mind as I wrote the words. My hope is you will find enjoyment and a sense of awareness and gratitude in the joys and lessons that life can teach us.

About the Author

Carl B. Coen was born in Garden City, Kansas, in 1925. His family moved to central Missouri in early 1930s. He attended Houston High School in 1942. He was drafted to active duty during World War II that same year. He was awarded four Bronze Stars and three Bronze Arrowheads during action in the Pacific. After returning from the war, he settled in Canoga Park, California, and started his floor-covering business. Carl has a son from his first marriage. He returned to the Philippines in 1983 for the second time since the war to build a factory for Precious Moments Company. He met his present wife, and they married in 1986 and were blessed with one daughter. Carl has received recognition for his poetry, “Engine 57” and “The Squaw.” When not reading or writing poetry, Carl enjoys doing woodworking projects and gardening. Carl recently retired in early June of this year after seventeen years of service for the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept. Twin Pines Ranch, where he did many of the carpentry and floor-covering work. Carl continues to share his love of poetry with his family and friends.
