About the Author
When Jack Nedell was growing up in Hollywood, California, the movie industry was in its heyday and a great place to live. However, Jack had a different idea of what he wanted in life. Early on he became fascinated with travel, and his dream was to break away from the limitations at home, go out into the vast world beyond the horizon and some day live and work abroad. In Around The World in 80 Years, Jack chronicles his life long sojourn traversing the globe. It began in 1949 when he had his fi rst overseas business experience in Europe selling French automobiles to U.S. GIs. A year later he traveled to Bermuda and taught dancing. Then, in 1952, he entered the graduate program at Thunderbird School of Global Management. In 1954, Jack was hired by The Procter & Gamble Company into a special international program whose mission was to rapidly develop new overseas markets. During his fi rst twenty-fi ve years with P&G, Jack, with his family, lived entirely outside of the United States on tours of varying years. Initialy, he worked in Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Chile with responsibilities in sales and brand management. As he rose up the management ladder, he moved on to P&G’s major subsidiary companies in Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Japan, where in each case he had CEO responsibility. From 1979-1987, Jack was based at P&G’s headquarters in Cincinnati where he reported to the president of P&G International and was at the heart of P&G’s global planning operations with responsibilities for strategic planning, worldwide marketing and overseas business development. Following retirement from P&G, Jack had a second career teaching international management courses at the University of Oregon and consulting and lecturing in the United States and abroad. Jack and his wife Gloria continue to make worldwide travel a priority in their life. When not on a journey somewhere, they divide their time between Coronado, California and their vacation homes in La Quinta, California and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
