About the Book

You must be my mom.

Of all the many faces
and hands that bring me places,
yours are always calm.

So, you must be my mom.

You must be my mother.

You stand so long above me
and look at me, and love me.
We stare at one another.

You must be my mother.

I must be your child.

About the Author

Once, and proudly, a Junior High School English teacher, Ed became a reporter and later in 1976 a featured columnist for Newsday the reigning Long Island daily newspaper, writing stories and essays three times a week. In December of 2004 he accepted an offer of early retirement. Meantime, Ed Lowe appeared for 14 seasons as a regular panelist on “Father Tom and Friends”, a weekly cablevision show, and hosted a daily radio talk show which hoisted him out of bed at the unreasonable hour of 4:30 AM so that he could off-set tuition costs for his fourth college bound progeny. In each of its 3 years on the air Ed’s program “Lowecally Speaking with Ed Lowe” on WLUX won a FOLIO award from the Long Island Coalition for Fair Broadcasting, now The Fair Media Council. Co-author with New York psychotherapist Stanley Siegel of “The Patient Who Cured His Therapist” and “Unchartered Lives” both published by Dutton/Plume, Ed Lowe edited two published collections of his own work “Ed Lowe’s Long Island” and “Not As I Do-A Father’s Report” A Marist College alumnus, Ed Lowe used to live with his property taxes in Amityville N.Y. on the South Shore of his beloved Long Island until he had a stroke in 2008. Ed is now free at last somewhere in his new home in the Great South Bay.
