About the Author
Born in Ohio, in a small steel mill town known as Youngstown, Ms. Rini went through elementary, junior high and high school in Boardman, Ohio. In those days, not exactly the one-room-schoolhouse days, the grades were all under a series of buildings next to each other, separated by an overhead corridor. She enjoyed all her classes and the one that won her heart was Art. After graduating from high school, Ms. Rini attended Youngstown University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a major in Art. She secured a teaching position in the Leetonia Unified School System in Leetonia, Ohio where she taught 2nd grade. The next year was exploring the teaching field in Miami, Florida; again the 2nd grade. But, being from Ohio, lizards and other crawling creatures were not her favorite things. Therefore, back to Ohio and to the Leetonia Unified School System where she then taught 3rd grade. In the next year and the five to follow, she taught Art in the Leetonia Unified School System, grades 1st through 12th, having Art exhibits including all the grades every year thereafter, which also included the Home Economics and the Industrial Arts students’ works. These exhibits proved to be the highlight of the school year for these most talented students. In 1969, her family decided that the cold winters were getting to be too much and California was the place where they wanted to live. So they moved to Riverside, California Since the Ohio teaching days, Ms. Rini and her brother< Joe, owned and operated the “SPUD CELLAR RESTAURANT” in Perris, California for 20 years. After the closure of the restaurant by the State of California, Ms. Rini went back into teaching, which was in Pomona, California at a Catholic school named Sacred Heart. At Sacred Heart Elementary School, she taught 6th grade and then 8th grade, along with the Vice-Principal position. Sadly to say, that school closed in 1998 and back to the “drawing board.” Where to find a job? By chance, along came a 6th grade teaching position at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Riverside. Perfect! She was at OLPH for 5 years; then went on to teach Arts and Crafts with Riverside Community College’s “Young at Heart” program for 4 years and then onto Villa Lea Retirement and Assisted Living as their Activities Director until 2014, when she decided to pursue a dream; her hand in writing children’s short stories and poetry. Ms. Rini has had her poetry published twice; once with the International Poets’ Society and once with the Famous Poets’ Society.
