About the Book Practical Mandarin Conversation is a book that contains only twenty chapters which focuses on the teaching and learning materials of Chinese language and culture. These are the features of this book: (1) each Chinese character is marked with Chinese Pinyin (including four tones) in order to facilitate the readers in reading, a characteristic that other Chinese teaching materials do not have; (2) all contents focus on introducing the Chinese culture, its natural and humanistic landscape; (3) most of the topics are limited to about two pages; (4) each topic is made up mainly of practical and simple sentences; (5) each topic is limited to twenty sentences; and (6) lots of useful Chinese words and expressions are added in each topic. The last topic is more comprehensive and is a brief introduction of Chinese culture; it is especially very helpful for foreign readers to understand briefly the Chinese culture. Therefore, it is a study and teaching material of Chinese language and culture which is suitable for all age groups and levels.


About the Author

Professor Frank Lee was born in Jakarta. After graduating from senior high school, he engaged in teaching in elementary school in Indonesia. In China, after graduating from the University of Dalian Technology, he worked at teaching and research at universities in Changchun and Qingdao cities. He has taken charge in setting up the Specialty of Machine Design and Manufacture in the Ocean University of China and taken part in several ocean and machine research. After immigrating to Australia, he has been teaching the Mandarin Chinese language up to now.
