Cayden swallowed uneasily and looked at Shade. “What are the prophecies of the Awakened Ones and of the Dark Angel?” she said hoarsely. Shade looked taken aback, and even Daniel gave her a startled look. Jeremy hid a dark look. Seth turned ghost white. “The Prophecy of the Awakened Ones was written in the seventeenth century,” Shade said slowly, “by the Prophetess Annamaria. Only the King knows the entirety of it, but from what he has told me it sounds a bit crazy.” “I wanna know,” Cayden murmured. Shade frowned, his eyes darkening with some unknown emotion. “It says that in the reign of the Lycan Race, after the coming of the new Prophetess and the crowning of a new Ascender Queen, a daughter of Witches would be born with no knowledge of her Power. Her strength would be that of a thousand suns, her heart that of pure gold, and her purity that of new-fallen snow. It was said that she would bear wings as black as the darkest night and that her soul would be split into three parts: one part for herself and one part for each of her Mates. “It was also written that a man born to the Fallen and the most impure of Warlock blood within the same times would be drawn to the daughter of Witches, a man with a heart as black as her wings and a Soul split in two parts: one part for himself and one for his Soul Mate.” Cayden felt her grip tighten on Daniel’s hand. “He would be her Ghardian. With the sealing of the Bond a part of their souls would awaken within the other, those souls being the reincarnations of Hecaté and Keenan. Hecaté and Keenan are the Awakened Ones, and will remain until their tasks are done.” Cayden swallowed. “The part of my soul,” she said queasily, “the part that belonged to Hecaté—you’re saying that’s the woman I hear in my thoughts? That’s Hecaté?” Shade nodded. “And the one who speaks to Daniel is the Wiccan Warrior Keenan.” Cayden glanced at Daniel, noting his clenched jaw and the obvious pain in his violet gaze. “Tell her the Prophecy of the Dark Angel,” he growled at Shade. Shade blanched and looked to Seth. The Wiccan was pale, nearly grey. He nodded tightly. Shade looked down at the floor, then back up at Cayden. “This prophecy was written by Eris Wilder sometime before this coven became strong.” Cayden started at the name. “It relates to you specifically, Cayden.” Shade looked at Daniel, whose iron grip had Cayden’s hand going numb. “It says that you will help make the Wiccans stronger than ever, and that you will bring about the alliance of the Warlock, Witch, and Wiccan Races. But at a cost… too great to imagine.” “Tell her,” Daniel said through gritted teeth. Shade was grim as he spoke. “The cost is your downfall at the hands of the Hunter Theo. Eris foretold your blood forming a precious river, from which only the blood of your Ghardian could ensure your soul’s return. The Dark Angel—you—would fall.” “‘And her wings be torn from her flesh as the Hunter torments her, and her True Mate would drown in sorrow for the rest of his days.’” Jeremy murmured softly. “Seth named his coven after the prophesied Dark Angel—after you. You’re the savior, and the martyr.”
