About the Book

Shortly after I turned thirty, struggling to raise three children, I was diagnosed with stage 4B cancer. Being raised in a very strict Catholic home—where the sacrifice of pain and suffering was taught as a way to get closer to God—I thought I had won the lottery. It was my turn to carry the cross for Christ. Unfortunately, I carried the wrong cross. Through my walk, I discovered there is a greater god out there. My father is my inspiration for joy and laughter. This book reveals the struggles of breaking free from a religious misunderstanding that consumed my soul. After a year in and out of hospitals and being separated from family, I broke free from a life of judgment and condemnation.

About the Author

Jeannie Luby, an entrepreneur, was raised with four healthy brothers, a staunch Catholic mother, and an honorable, quiet father. She lived in Kenora, a small Canadian town. At age fourteen, the family home was turned into a group home for young male offenders, and she remained there until her early twenties. Straight out of high school, Jeannie attended college in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and she received her childcare and adolescent-worker diploma. After graduating, she spent a few years working at the family-owned group home. In her twenties, she married and raised three children, who grew into aspiring adults. Her oldest child, Amanda, blessed her with four enthusiastic grandchildren (Kadin, Kirvayah, Kahli, and Knoxx). Kadin describes his grandmother as “fun, exciting, and educational.” Jeannie became an inspirational leader and church minister. She is always looking forward to the next chapter in life with a list of adventures and activities that excite her inner spirit, including skydiving, zip-lining, golfing, skiing, and riding a motorcycle. She wants to be fifty and free. She is looking forward to “refiring” and not retiring in the next few years.
