I pulled out the gun with the sights already mounted and peered around me as I drove. I had slowed down waiting for the attack or whatever, when the pursuing car came up alongside my vehicle and tried to run me off the road. I swerved off the road, one hand holding the gun and the other the steering wheel. I wasn't going to put down the gun. I would only get possibly one chance. Suddenly the other car was past mine and we skidded to a halt. Two men got out of the car, guns in their hands. They came towards my car. I looked for an escape route. Too late, there was a sudden blur before my eyes and the two men disintegrated into pieces of flesh and blood. I cringed and prepared for my turn. The gunsights were bright red and the gun was whining. The gun pointed at the left side window. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up and felt its presence. I saw a grizzly sight of dismembered bodies and it was standing there looking at me. It was large, much larger than a human, with some sort of hairy covering over part of its body. It looked like what you would call an alien. It had huge penetrating eyes, fierce mouth with sharp teeth and a flattish nose. Gigantic hands with large claws. We stared for an eternity then it’s lips wrinkled and it left in a blur. My heart took at least five minutes to calm down to three thousand beats a minute. The phone beeped. I jumped up in my seat and tried to speak. Nothing came out. Human blood dripped down the outside of the windscreen.

He was one of the best but now finds himself expendable. Outnumbered and against all odds, he battles for survival against a fierce alien presence that is very unpredictable. In the turmoil, he finds true love and adopts a child left by the alien's carnage. He faces the thought of his own mortality and of his newfound family. He is confronting a life-and-death situation every time he faces the aliens. He has to balance his everyday life and the savagery of the aliens in a spasmodic and sometimes impossible dilemma.
