About the Author

The Author is a Chicago native who is a graduate of Rosary College (DominicanUniversity). Mrs. Crosby – Averhart is employed as an Administrative Statistician for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Illinois, where she has met many individuals with various medical conditions. Coming from the same community as many of the patients, she realizes that it has been GOD’s grace that has kept her. The author’s desire to give back and to make a difference comes through her volunteer work in helping others at her place of employment. Mrs. Crosby-Averhart is a recipient of the 2010 Friends of Sister Thea Bowman Humanitarian Award. She spearheaded John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital’s first Breast Cancer Awareness event in October 2008, she was the Liaison for the Lung Cancer Awareness Event in November 2008, she is a member of the National Cancer Survivor Day celebration committee (2009 – Present), she is the liaison for the Breast Cancer Awareness event (2009 – Present), and she serves as coordinator for Community Outreach for the Hospital’s Cancer Committee (2011 – Present). Mrs. Crosby-Averhart believes in the impossible and that GOD lives and works through people.
