My son inspired me to write this book. He was born at 30 weeks gestation from a condition call preeclampsia and spent two months and 3 weeks in the NICU. Preeclampsia is a condition unique to human pregnancy. It is diagnosed by the elevation of the expectant mother’s blood pressure usually after the 20th week of pregnancy. (In my case my blood pressure starts going up from the beginning of the pregnancy). This condition not only affects the unborn baby but also brings new development of decreased blood platelets, trouble with the kidneys or liver, fluid in the lungs, or signs of brain trouble such as seizures and/or visual disturbances for the mother. Some of the symptoms are: headaches, abdominal pain, shortness of breath or burning behind the sternum, nausea and vomiting, confusion, heightened state of anxiety, and/or visual disturbances such as oversensitivity to light, blurred vision, or seeing flashing spots or auras. Preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy impact 5-8% of all births in the United States. The subject of preeclampsia is not something that is talked enough and it is also a reality for many families in the world. This book is not just to give comfort to families with kids in the NICU but also to create awareness about preeclampsia.

About the Author
Amiris Sabo is a mother and a language medical interpreter. She has a BA degree in public relations and communications. She is the owner of the Delta Bee, a company that helps minorities in her community. She was published in 2015 in a women’s annual devotional called Jardines del Alma from Pacific Press Publishing House. She was born in Costa Rica and came to the United States when she was thirteen years old. After experiencing preeclampsia and having two children in the NICU (one didn’t make it home), she decided to be an advocate for other families and specially women that have gone or are going through the same experience.
