They notice conversations that stop when they walk in.They notice forced smiles.They notice when other kids have fathers at school events while they're still wondering where theirs is.I didn't have the language for it then.I only knew something was missing. As I grew older, I learned that missing people leave behind invisible lessons. Sometimes those lessons become excuses. Sometimes they become motivation. Sometimes they become both. The strange thing about inherited pain is that it rarely announces itself. It quietly settles into the way you think about yourself. You begin believing certain things are simply who you are.
