“Let’s give him the royal treatment!” Zacuzzi, Sylvia’s dog fiancé exclaimed. “I’m getting him some treats!” Zacuzzi ran to the storeroom as many animals crowded around to see the new guy.
“Hey, now, back up a little. Let’s let “Little Guy” here eat and drink in peace, then afterwards, we can talk to him. Don’t crowd him - he’s a bit scared, okay?” Samantha reminded the crowd.
“Oh, okay. We’ll come back in a bit.” The cats said, and the dogs smiled at “Little Guy” and walked away as Cianan brought two bowls, one of delicious dog food, and one of cool water. Zacuzzi trotted over with a few biscuits and deposited them next to the little dog’s bowls.
Little Guy ate as if he hadn’t eaten in days! After a few minutes, he drank his fill of water. Next, Little Guy tackled his biscuits and a treat with enthusiasm!
“Wow! This is the greatest food and biscuits I’ve ever had!” he finally blurted out. Then, realizing he spoke, He anxiously looked around. Cianan, Samantha, Josie, Snowflake and Ferral were watching him enjoying his food from a few feet away, smiling.
“Glad you liked it!” Ferral said. “There’s more to come. You can stay with us until we find you a new home, okay?”
Little Guy smiled. He was beginning to feel safe now. Everyone was so kind to him! That, he wasn’t used to.
“Really? Can I stay here? With all of you guys? But where will I sleep?”
“Great question, Little Guy! Cianan, show him our newly vacated boudoir for this guy!” Ferral said, smiling widely. There was nothing Ferral liked better than helping a stray animal come to the shelter and enjoy their way of life.
“Come on. I’ll walk with you.” Snowflake offered. Across the backroom where all the animal rooms were, they walked with Little Guy to an empty cage with no door on it, like all the other cages. They referred to them as “rooms” because they could come as go as they pleased. There were never any fronts on the cages - they were more like bedrooms for each animal. No one was caged in. Inside the cage, or room, was a thick, fluffy blue towel, with a rubber ball and a piece of rawhide for chewing.
“Oh, wow! So very nice!” Little Guy said, His eyes were wide with wonder. He turned and looked at the others who had followed him over to his new room.
“This---this is ---for—me?” he asked timidly.
Sylvia the cat couldn’t hold herself back anymore.
“Yes! For you! We love you!” she rushed forward to hug the little fluffy black and white dog.
