Mastering Leadership Fundamentals:

The most important need in society today is to develop individuals with positive and progressive intentions and solid fundamentals who will become future leaders in companies, organizations, governments and institutions. Additionally, there is an ever-increasing societal interest in knowing and understanding more about positive leadership. There have been numerous publications, both theoretical and practical, that attempt to explain the concept of leadership and how to lead others. Additionally, there has been an increasing number of university centers, programs or even entire departments dedicated to the study of leadership. One unintended consequence of this increased attention has been an acceptance that leadership exchanges should only occur with the people who hold positions of leadership. But in actuality, leadership must be present at all levels in a work system for maximum performance. The overarching theme throughout this book is this – there is an opportunity to practice leadership with every interaction, therefore anyone can be a leader whether or not he or she has a position of power in their organization or place of work. So if every interaction is an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, the question becomes, “can one learn how to lead?” And the answer is yes! So then the ‘how’ of it comes into play. The basis of this is to start small and begin to develop your leadership abilities where you are now in your life.
