A Long Climb To The Top

Now he sat on the sidewalk beaten, confused and wondering how he had reached this low point in his young life. He did not seem to have any broken bones or missing teeth, but he felt his right eye swelling shut and his rib cage hurt in a bad way. He knew he could not go home to Ruth in this bad of shape. Gary moved as fast as possible to hide behind a corner of a building and knew he needed to get off the street fast. He again moved toward the grocery store but it seemed like an eternity to Gary before he finally approached the store and made his way to the payphone. Praying he still had money, he felt in his pants pocket and felt the coins. Dropping coins in the phone he called Walters house.
