About the Book

Encounter with the Wild follows a responsible peasant boy raised in a close-knit African village by hardworking parents and deeply influential grandparents. His grandfather teaches him to read nature with patience and humility, while his grandmother grounds him in emotional resilience, cultural memory, and healing knowledge.

When the boy is sent on a routine errand beyond the village, an accident leaves him injured and lost in the wilderness. Over several days, he must survive hunger, thirst, fear, and encounters with wild animals. His greatest struggle is internal learning when to act, when to wait, and how to master panic.

Through memory and discipline, the boy learns lessons from his upbringing, gradually turning fear into awareness. When he is finally rescued, he returns home physically weaker but psychologically stronger. The wild has not toughened him; it has clarified his sense of self.

The novel concludes with the boy stepping into a new role within his community—no longer merely prepared for life, but capable of guiding others.
