About the Book

Man.  What does the word man, mean?  All cultures that have entered this great country have at least retained that part of their heritage.  Their men hold an easily identified role in their society.  You can tell that by looking at their modern day cultures. Would you believe that the African American culture had a concrete definition of what makes a male, a man?

We all know that a large number of single black homes are female dominated.  Some of us know that most two parent homes are female dominated as well. What no one has done, is deal with how this makes the black male feel.  Yes, we all know the results, high suicide rate, low college entry rate, high levels of incarceration, low levels of graduation.  Yes, we know the end, but what emotions do they carry around with them everyday?

BLACK THUNDER VOL. I is the result of a 16 year odyssey, by the author using interviews and discussions concerning the ongoing extinction of the black man.  The focus is not on the outside, but rather on the inside.  The poetry of pain inside this book concerns the self-inflicted destruction of the black male.  There may be some that are not surprised by the feelings inside of this book, but for most, "Having eyes they see not."

About the Author

I am a father of two children, a boy and a girl. I am married and a life long resident of the Washington DC. metro area. This is my first book of poems. I have published poetry in anthologies, such as WPFW 89.3 FM Poetry Anthology, and I have participated in poetry readings, some on cable TV, and radio. I have also published articles in small press magazines such as America's Intercultural Magazine. I write poetry from the average person to the average person. I believe the reason poetry is not attractive to most readers, is because many poems are to high minded. I have also completed a children's book, Fuzzy's Last Adventure, and a novel, THE ORB.
