About the Book

By the time Kit turned five years old, she was virtually an orphan. Her father, Charles Andrews had lost his prosperous farm and beautiful stone home, which he had mortgaged at his widowed mother’s insistence, in order to pay off his wastrel brother’s gambling debts.

The youngest of Catherine Andrew’s eight surviving children, Kit, almost five and her brother who was seven worried about what would happen to them, now that they were homeless and their mother was barely clinging to life in St. Genevieve’s hospital after the still-birth of her last infant, Clery--the baby girl she had named for her mother’s home back in Ireland.

About the Author

I was always scribbling something--rather poor poetry or stories for children. Being a pragmatist, I felt it would be wiser to choose a more practical profession. Since I was an only child and my father owned a corner drugstore, I opted for the profession of Pharmacy. Altogether, I practiced forty-three years, fitting in courses in Education and Social Studies, which allowed me to teach middle school students for several years. I married, had three children, did some newspaper articles and, finally when I retired I wrote the three volumes of ONLY A WOMAN Trilogy, which was loosely based on the stories my mother and her siblings related about their family. CELESTE is the third and last volume.
