About the Book

I hope Mama will not be lonely, Celeste worried as she skipped along the path to her first day at school--the beautiful new kindergarten near her home. The youngest of the five Callahan children, Celeste felt responsible for her frail, young widowed mother, Kit. She knew her mama’s heart was damaged by the shock of Papa’s sudden death in a train accident three years ago.

As a toddler she felt responsible for helping and watching over her dear Mama.

Must hurry home at noon to help set out lunch, she thought as she entered the school, patting her dark shiny black curls in place and smoothing her new blue plaid dress.

About the Author

I was always scribbling something--rather poor poetry or stories for children. Being a pragmatist, I felt it would be wiser to choose a more practical profession. Since I was an only child and my father owned a corner drugstore, I opted for the profession of Pharmacy. Altogether, I practiced forty-three years, fitting in courses in Education and Social Studies, which allowed me to teach middle school students for several years. I married, had three children, did some newspaper articles and, finally when I retired I wrote the three volumes of ONLY A WOMAN Trilogy, which was loosely based on the stories my mother and her siblings related about their family. CELESTE is the third and last volume.
