The author briefly explains how the schools got from “there” to “here”, noting that while integration was the right thing to do, the WAY IT WAS DONE, WITH HARDLY ANY PLANNING, RESULTED IN A NATIONAL DISGRACE TO ALL RACES. But the author concentrates on what can the parents do now to improve the schools. En masse parents can do a great deal, but it takes time, persistence.

About the Author

George Harmon Smith, born in the Louisiana swamp country, won literary recognition with his first YA novel, BAYOU BOY, which won many top awards, and was made into a Walt Disney movie.
