About the Book

In the turbulent Sixties, the Scorpion ?? a U.S. Submarine sank off the Bermuda Triangle under mysterious circumstances.

The Red Scorpion is a fiction story, in no way related to the historical facts of the above. Any resemblance of characters, history is simply coincidental.

The Red Scorpion reflects the abysmal division of this Country. The crew is an amalgam of good, bad and ugly citizens of the times. The families are torn apart, the fabric of society is ripped. Dissidents and spies coalesce and form the Fifth Column within The Red Scorpion's men.

Captain Wilcox is given command of an impossible mission: Track and stop the Soviet submarines' infiltration; sort out the crew and find a spy. Just out of a sad divorce and in love again, Captain Wilcox brings aboard, sweet and sour memories, that visit him under stress.

His Second?in?Command and previous competitor is Commander Lamiche, a distinguished gay officer, who becomes his valuable assistant as the intrigues, spun by Mr. Roenik, intensify.

Mr. Roenik is a National Security Observer, attached to the Scorpion. Having sought and failed to co?command the mission with Captain Wilcox, focuses his unusual intelligence, on derailing the mission. His unaware associates were, through coercion, envy or stupidity ?? Chief Engineer Manetti, Officer Swanson, and Petty officer Coss, a Missile Specialist.

Chief Engineer Manetti is superb in his job, but absolutely rotten inside out. He takes infinite pleasure in tormenting Commander Lamiche, directly or through allusions.

Officer Swanson grew on debauchery, preying on his colleagues' wives. Shameless and without honor, he seduces Lorena Verden, and parades her in all the nightclubs of Norfolk. Incited by Mr. Roenik, he brags about his acquisition aboard the submarine.

Officer Verden, saddled with four children and a debauchee wife centers his efforts on tracking the Night Crawler ?? a new Soviet silent submarine. As he tails the Night Crawler, his wife's escapades with Mr. Swanson becomes a new wide?known secret aboard the Red Scorpion.
