Diary of a Crayon

About the Book

This is a story about a box of 8 crayons, and it is narrated by the main character, Red Crayon. Red doesn't understand his purpose in life and struggles with his confidence as he sees other members of his family chosen from their home, the crayon box, and taken on adventures. His brothers and sisters return to their home, short and happy, but very secretive. They try to reassure him and tell him not to worry. It is only after he is chosen for the most special project of all, that he finally discovers the meaning of his life and understands the family secret.

About the Author

I am a Canadian-born mother of two beautiful children, Abbey and Brad. I am a Board Certified Obstetrician Gynecologist in practice for over 19 years. As my children have grown up, I have taken an active role in their education. This story came to life one day after my 10 year old daughter Abbey came home from school and announced that she had to write a story. She decided that it would be the "Diary of a Crayon". My immediate reaction was that this was going to be a very long night. Rather, it proved to be a truly magical, memorable evening working with Abbey and watching her excitement grow as "Red Crayon" struggled with his identity and eventually discovered his importance and acceptance in the world. - Stephanie Ash M.D. I am a 10 year old girl from Michigan, excited about starting Grade 5 at Hughes Elementary.
