About the Book
Bobbie Ann Mason created a small town for some of her work about Kentucky. With a similar setting, ElfNight abounds with memorable characters and story lines. Like Christmas, ElfNight comes in different gifts: An early American frontier game played out between teacher, students, and town. An elf disguised as a general store owner. Quilts. Candy bars. A handkerchief. A teddy bear. A dog on a doorstep. A sparrow in a snowstorm. ElfNight stories are warm, tender, nostalgic, full of joy and sadness, for Christmas cannot ward off the reality of everyday life.
