About the Book

A Poetical Offering with Commentaries is best described as a poetical work with a strong Christian and apocalyptical orientation. The author’s basic premise is that the end of the Age of Grace is near. The Age of Grace is a presumed time span of two millennia following the death , resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Afterwards, near the beginning of the third millennium, certain biblical and other prophesies of an apocalyptical nature will come to pass. This work was written with a specific audience in mind, namely, young and fairly well-educated Continental Europeans of a Christian persuasion. Nonbelievers should not bother to read this book because it will be unintelligible to them. Fortunately, during the last half century, English has become the lingua franca on planet earth so that these poems and essays should be accessible to most of the intended audience. The author, a German-born American citizen who as a child witnessed and, by the grace of God, survived the Allied bombing of German cities and towns during World War II, believes that a European audience will best be able to relate to this work and benefit from it. American and British readers will be predisposed to condemn it. This writer lays no claim to being a poet. He does not read poetry nor does he write any for the sake of producing it for publication. None of the rhymed verses in this volume were the result of a conscious work effort - they simply entered his mind in more or less complete form. The three series of poems of A Poetical Offering, are followed by seven Commentaries which serve to provide background information for the poems and expand on them. The last of these entitled Visions of the Apocalypse contain new interpretations of some well-known prophetic writings.
