About the Book

A Bent Toward Marriage is the story of lost loves, a subject familiar to anyone who has ever lived. This book is dedicated to my first love, fraulein Dinkelocker, the German nurse from whom I was rudely taken at the impressionable age of four. Among its cast of characters is my estranged mother; a distant relative; and American WASP; a Viennese German blueblood, who assured me that ‘you are an aristocrat;’ and a French courtesan who taught me more about life than anyone I can remember from that period.

About the Author

I was born in New York City in 1929 of orthodox Jewish parentage; educated at Transylvania College, a Baptist school; Syracuse University and N.Y.U., where I dropped out of the Doctoral Program after the first year, through educational ennui. In 1964 I married a Japanese girl whose story you can read in her autobiography Taka’s Beads, also published by Xlibris. We have two grand children, Tatiana and Tyler, who live with their parents in Guildford, U.K.
