About the Book

There are many elements of fire: the Phoenix, which represents rebirth and immortality, the Sun, which provides light and heat and Volcanoes. Volcanoes erupt with hot magma that needs to escape from below the earth’s surface. The heat is unbearable yet lava is beautiful to view. Many people think of words to escape situations they know they must deal with. There is no form of escapism compared to the eruption of a Volcano. “Volcano”, a collection of poetry, quotes, songs and images melt and mold your mind into shapes unimaginable. It includes words and rhythms created from elements of fiery thoughts and life experiences featuring over seven different poetry styles. The images in the book are the brilliant result of collaboration with various talented artists. Jamila collaborated with the Fashion Empowering Women Foundation® to support social innovation and literacy. Fashion Empowering Women® (FEW) is a non-profit foundation that mobilizes the creative industries of fashion, literature, music and film by creating opportunities for its members to support the missions of social service organizations that empower girls and women. FEW also provides a forum for dialogue and awareness-building about how creative professionals can alleviate the burdens that sexism perpetuates. About the Author

Jamila Garrett is a native Washingtonian. Jamila began writing at age six and has continued this legacy over the years. Her love of fashion and literacy inspired her to include images that represent selected poems. She began creating the World Element Collection with her first book, Hurricane of Butterflies (AIR). Volcano (FIRE) is part two of the collection which will be followed by the remaining elements of the world: EARTH and WATER.
