About the Book
I Am . . . I Can is a story written for struggling children to encourage them to accomplish their goals. As they see determination through a racehorse’s eyes and imagine that is how they feel, they will be given hope that they can succeed, just like the racehorse, without getting discouraged.
About the Author
As a retired steelworker, a mother of two sons, and grandmother of two grandsons and a step-granddaughter, I decided to devote my time to helping children. I volunteer at Reins of Life, which is a therapeutic riding stable for children as well as adults with mental and physical handicaps. I have also spent time in the elementary school that my grandsons attend helping the teachers with the classroom activities. Because I am also an animal lover, I volunteer at the Michigan City Washington Park Zoo and has spent some time grooming dogs in the area shelter to make them more adoptable. I thought of the idea of an I Am . . . I Can series when my first grandson was struggling in school and fell behind and became discouraged. I hoped the struggling racehorse would help him develop a better self-esteem.
