About the Book
This story focuses on Jeff Baldwin, age 34, a bachelor H.S.teacher. His accidental meeting with Marci Marks, a photographer who acquired an unusual crystal from an Indian mystic has far reaching consequences.
After obtaining the stone from Marci, his students started excelling. The school administration could not understand why the non-performers and dropouts that were assigned to this nonentity teacher were evolving into the elite of the school, in both grades and attendance. Neither could Jeff! His curiosity of this unusual crystal swayed him to have it examined by the school’s chemistry teacher, Jim Boyd, a closet alcoholic with an unstable personality.
‘Mr. Boyd took the crystal to the school science lab and placed it on his workbench. “Now, why did that weasel of a teacher insist on a chemical analysis, and what was it that excited that jerk so about this crystal?” he pondered. Could it be the quality of its perfectly unblemished surface, it’s purity of color, or perhaps its geometry? Looking at the surface with a magnifying glass, it appeared unpolished and uncut. “Just what would create this perfectly geometric configuration,” he questioned? Then, after a momentary pause, he shouted into the empty lab,
“No, no, no. This rock, this crystal was not cut or polished…this is in it’s natural state, and yet…” Perspiration was pouring from his brow, his heart beating madly. Something else disturbed him; it felt unusually heavy for such a small object.
After computing the volume of the mass, and determining the natural weight of crystal, he calculated it was almost twice as heavy for its size. “Yes, yes,” he shrieked, “THIS is something special.”
Mr. Boyd felt drawn to this inanimate object. Clasping it in his hand gave him a feeling of power, of well-being. He needed strength now, for Mr. Boyd was fighting for his life. A lifetime smoker, his recent medical exam revealed a sobering report. He had inoperable lung cancer, prognosis; about one year to live.
With shirt soaked in sweat and body trembling, he questioned, “Why this surge of energy, this feeling of strength when enclosing this object?”
I have always marveled at the brilliance of man. How he has prevailed throughout the ages, always increasing his adaptability to a changing environment and increasing knowledge. In only a short time in relative history, he has evolved from a hunter with a stone tool to space exploration.
Yet, I ponder with more incredulity the world in which we live. This ball of earth, spinning gyroscopically houses all the life giving sustenance to perpetuate life. This accident of the cosmos did not happen by circumstance or accident. This must be the design of intelligence beyond comprehension, a design so empowering that the only word to give it credence is GOD.
When one thinks of the magnitude of mans survival and accomplishments in this short history in time, we must realize it all derives from the ground we walk on, the abundant water supply and the air we breathe. Nutrients from the earth supply our sources of food and ore for our creature comforts. As temporary occupants on this miraculous planet, we should set aside time from our daily travails to appreciate the magnificence of this heavenly sphere we call home…our EARTH.
As a frequent visitor to flea markets, I was astounded to see a vendor selling quartz watches for $2.00. Why, the band alone was worth the price I reasoned. All worked and the time was accurate. After buying a few, I questioned, “How can this instrument, using a quartz crystal work and be produced so cheaply. Most importantly, how does quartz crystal work? What energy from the earth, so abundant in nature, allows man to create this wonderful time device?
Therein lies my infatuation and study of the energy of Crystal, and its proverbial power.
Hence, “The Mystery of the Andari Crystal.”
