About the Book

"Minefield Children" is a collection of poems ranging in mood from gentle lyricism to dark horror. The voices of Holocaust survivors; madmen; children; lovers; South American Inquisitors and the dying mingle in its pages.

The view of life expressed in Aran's verse is dark; his times have been filled with blood, tears and the screams of shattered little ones. Yet the darkness of "Minefield Children" is often relieved by tender moments of love and fragile hope.

The title of the collection refers to children who were used during a recent war. They were made to walk across mined fields to clear a path for soldiers whose lives were deemed more valuable than their own. The children were told they would go to heaven immediately if they stepped on a mine.

Many mines were detonated.

Minefield Children will haunt you, will move you to tears,  and will cut through the prose of your life into the poetry of your heart.

About the Author

Rayan Aran lives and works in Toronto, Canada. His influences have included the Bible, Wilfred Owen, and World Mythology. For Aran, poetry is the most intense form of Literature in our culture, nalogous to the string quartet in Western Classical music. Through poetry one is able to achieve a kind of cathartic release from the barren emptiness of this difficult age.
