About the Book

Set before the Civil War in the Northern Minnesota lake country, Running Deer is sent alone into the wilderness to find his Guardian Spirit.  This Ojibway tradition is part of  the passage to adulthood for all young Indian men.  Running Deer saves a half-wolf who becomes

his ally and travels with him as he experiences  death-defying adventures and encounters the enemy Dakotas on his journey to manhood.

About the Author

Maggie is 91 years and has been writing stories for 80 years! She published her first work in the Grit newspaper at eleven and received one dollar.
