About the Book
It is hard to say where this story, or most any story, actually begins. As so many others, though, this story began as a love story. But perhaps this tale, like most, begins already underway, with a constant eye toward where and when it all started. Keep in mind that what has passed -- as much as we would oftentimes like to leave it in the past -- may always be with us in the present, supervising, influencing -- if not altogether controlling -- our present and our future. We try to sometimes ignore, resist, or at least manage its muscle, but only occasionally do we succeed. Like the O.J. Simpson - Nicole Brown, Ron Goldman case, we know how the trial ended, but the case continues. The reader should also keep in mind that every adventure is more of an adventure than writing or reading about it.
About the Author
A former Denver lawyer, Cam was born, raised, and educated in the Midwest. He wrote this novel with the benefit of his own background. He’s had more than his share of challenges. His childhood was in a small town where everyone knows everyone else. At a very young age his father died, and just a few years later his mother remarried. He became part of a family situation where the children were "Mine, Yours and Ours", a bumpy ride. After surviving a near-fatal car crash, he went to a local private university to continue his education. In college he did well, and met and married his college sweetheart. After college, he became a policeman in a larger Mid-western community. In 1978 he was diagnosed with (thus far) operable brain tumors. Not surprisingly, he and his wife planned for his early death. Defiantly, though, law school followed. Denver was the next chapter. But instead of his demise, a rare form of a somewhat common disease took his young wife to a premature grave. Several years ago, he took a seemingly contrasting path working a manual-labor trade in heavy commercial construction. A few years after that, he completed his withdrawal by trying to leave life's mainstream altogether. He migrated to South Florida’s sailboat-ing community. Living hand-to-mouth, inhabiting boarding houses, working odd jobs in and around pleasure boating, he learned to sail boats. Intending to hitchhike around the world working on others’ sailboats, he crewed for sail and powerboat deliveries in the Caribbean and along the U.S. Atlantic coast. Cam has re-married (one of his answers) and now lives in Atlanta with his wife Carole, and their three cats. Now a cancer survivor, and a stroke, he still worries about the brain tumors. But, he believes that he has finally found some answers.
