About the Book

"So You Want To Be A Comedian"... The Life and Times of an Undiscovered Stand-Up Comedian...Tyrone Pierre Dumas...performing from 1974 to 1997... I dedicate this book to all of those unsung stand-up comics who gave it their all but yet came up short in getting a shot/or opportunity to take their talents to the next level with regular paid comedy club gigs/performances, having a chance to be a comedy writer, be an opening act for music groups/other comics, get an TV sitcom, get a long term opportunity to work in big city like Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, be in a movie and or have a lifetime career/job in comedy. I thank all of those who supported me over those 20+ years by coming to my shows, allowing me to perform in their comedy showcases/venues, laughed at my material, drove me and others around the Midwest to perform, stole some stuff for themselves because what i wrote was so good, heckled me while trying to run me off the stage. Thank you to those successful Comics (listed in the book) for encouraging me to do well and to be funny by believing in myself and especially being ME in my comedy presentations. I always knew that the impossible could become the possible but the reality was that a career in comedy would not be in my career cards….it took me over 20 years to finally come to that conclusion…I have 2 degrees in Architecture and 1 in Education and it was about time I made them work for me and my family…I learned things on the road that I did not want to deal with and or do while in pursuit of a comedy career like drugs, late night hanging out, drinking alcohol and sacrificing my family... I could not sacrifice my family for my selfish goals….I learned form the experiences that I could dabble any time I wanted but I also found a way to use my comedy training as a motivational speaker, presenter and youth mentor. My faith walk also increased and was internally conflicted with my ideas of selfish gain to pursue a comedy career vs my family...I am disappointed but not angry/mad that I did not make it as a comic and was undiscovered. I know myself and have in my heart much in love, faith and belief in myself. I have a deep and loving admiration for all those who have become successful comics in spite of all the risks, adversity, people/logistical barriers and road blocks they conquered to be discovered and become a successful comedian/comic, whom we watch on TV, in movies, see headlining and or as a part of comedy/entertainment shows. Congratulations To You All for climbing that ladder of Comedy Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About the Author

Tyrone Pierre Dumas was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a former stand-up comedian with 14+ years of his own creative and expressive comedy. Tyrone is married to Ceciel for 39+ years has two adult children and four grandchildren. He learned many of these traditional family recipes from his mother (Darlene) and grandmother (Arvella) who’s Fordyce, Arkansas roots contributed to his love for food. Tyrone has had many different career paths. He has 2 degrees in Architecture, and his credentials include being a facilities and corporate engineer, education administrator, volunteer, mentor, church leader and community activist.
