About the Author

Dr. Anna Lawton teaches courses in visual culture and film studies at Georgetown University, where she has been since 1987. Before that, she was a professor at Purdue University, where she taught Russian studies with a focus on film. Dr. Lawton is a member of the Film Advisory Board at the National Gallery of Art, in Washington, DC. Her publications include numerous articles, book chapters, and books such as Kinoglasnost: Soviet Cinema in Our Time (Cambridge University Press, 1992) and The Red Screen: Politics, Society, Art in Soviet Cinema, ed. (Routledge,1992).
