About the Book
A Family Affair is part mainstream novel, part war story with several flashbacks to the Korean War, but it is mostly a love story- the love of a dying man for his granddaughter and his determination to give her a better life. It also speaks to several relevant issues of today, child abuse through neglect and the devastating effects of compulsive gambling upon the family of the gambler. The plot also takes several twists and turns, along with a few surprises, before Gus finds a unique solution for a happy ending for granddaughter Ivy.
About the Author
The author was born and raised in the small town of Lebanon, Illinois, about twenty-five miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. In his youth he worked as a farm hand, a foundry laborer, and a dairy hand. After graduating High School, he went to work for a plumbing and heating contractor digging sewer ditches with a spade and shovel. Twenty-five years later, he owned the company. In between working at the plumbing and heating trade, serving in the Korean War, and building six houses, he managed to find time to write his first novel. He still lives in Lebanon with his wife, Lila.
