About the Book

This novel is based on the ancient Arabic legend of Layla, first set down in writing by the Persian poet Nizami over nine hundred years ago. ‘Layla’ is a name familiar to many people because of the Eric Clapton song, which was inspired by this timeless tale. In Layla, The Moon and the Night, the medieval Islamic setting is combined with elements from Indian and Chinese literature, making the story rich in cultural texture. Although Layla is set in ancient Arabia, the underlying themes are universal: the power of dreams, the beauty of love, and the triumph of hope in the face of disaster.
