About the Book
ieutenant Jim Stone, an infantry platoon leader in Salzburg, becomes involved with the werewolves shortly after the end of World War II. The werewolves were diehard Nazis ordered to fall back and fight to the end in the alps. He became involved in a conflict with a small group while on a search party for Martin Bormann, a highly ranked, deadly Nazi high in the alps.
After winning a shootout in the alps, he returned to Salzburg and became a prison stockade compound commander. Political leaders, and high Nazi leaders, and generals were inmates. With a sidekick, he uncovers a black market in the camp, and captures the culprit with the aid of an Austrian Captain Bauer an inmate and assistant in the camp.
Jim's buddy, Bob, often traveled to Saalfelden to a German supply dump for German rations to feed the prison camp. They learn of a huge two city blackmarket headed by a former Nazi informer. Using Bob's girlfriend's connections with the blackmarketeer, and using the rations as bait, they attempt a sting operation to land the elusive leader, Klaus Becker, behind bars. After perilous attempts to kill Jim and Bob along the mountainous and treacherous road high in the alps, and blowing up Jim's and Inge's vehicles in the city, the racketeer then launched attacks on the store in the old market section that was set up as a lure. Jim fell in love with the beautiful Inge, an apparent accomplice of Klaus, but who became his ally in the battle against the gangster. Jim and Inge, pursue the murderers to the autobahn and after a high speed chase, a shootout results. They enjoyed a brief victory celebration, and learned that the communists are behind the plot and their lives are in danger. The communist party needed money, and they also were fighting for control of the new Austrian government. Bauer, a candidate for office, is saved from a red assassin by Jim. The assassin was a German defector to the U.S. and after enlisting became a secret agent.
A surprise ending sets up the sequence of novels that follow.
