About the Book

When Ruth, the daughter of a Philippine diplomat meets an African-American singer, she has already lived on three continents. The Berlin Crisis brings the couple to West Berlin, the Divided City. For Ruth, West Berlin is just one more stopover in her quest to find a permanent home in the U.S. But the city, its people, the ironies of its division, its recent hideous past fascinate then capture the minds and hearts of this inter-racial couple. And they stay for twenty years.

About the Author

Born in the Philippines, Ruth moved to the United States at age 2 ½. After her father joined the Philippine diplomatic corps, Ruth lived in several countries. The Berlin Crisis intervened in Ruth’s plans to find a home in the U. S. and end her wandering life. After her husband’s military unit was sent to West Berlin, the couple decided to live there as civilians for just one year, but one year became twenty as Charles’s singing career grew and two children were born. After returning to the U.S., ties to Berlin remained strong, even after the Wall was breached.
