About the Book
RIDE A DARK HORSE in the DARK HIGHT is an exploration into the past, the mind, the thoughts, and actions of African Americans. Descendants of an ancient people, the African American more often views reality through lens of his ancient orientation/memories. The values, beliefs and spiritualism inherent in these memories are described as 'Guiding Lights:" Naturalism, Communalism, Temporalism, and Fatalism. They function in helping to shape the African American's worldview, and tend to influence human behavior As such they often place the individual and group in conflict with Western thought and practices. Living in and working through conflicting worldviews place the African American as one who rides a dark horse in the dark night.
About the Author
Tommie Morton-Young is an author, historian, and social/psychologist. She is a former professor and senior administrator in higher education. She presently owns and operates heritage/research/publishing entities, and writes.. A community and civil rights activist, she has authored ten books in the areas of history and genealogy, sat-risk youth, and women's issues. She holds the Ph. D. degree from Duke University, and completed the dissertation research in the Caribbean focusing on 'self-identity and national development,' and 'how people think.' Duke University Archives houses her social and civil rights papers. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including Woman of the Year, Distinguished Service Award from the US Commission on Civil Rights, Contributions to the Development of Youth through Writings Award, Excellence in Journalism Award, and she is the 2006 recipient of the ATHENA International Award. She is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, etc
