Power packed action with thrilling suspense, 3 Deep captures the battle of the inner city woes. The novel was written from a teen’s perspective and directed toward a teacher that made a profound influence on his life. Dee Watts is the main character of the novel, a fourteen year-old kid from the Southside of town. Dee has two comrades by the name of Hema and Pilot. Hema is dangerous teen that loves to play football, while Pilot is an adroit Basketball player. These three young men find themselves on a journey through racism, injustice, and violence. A middle school teacher by the name of Miss Dannatte, inspires and encourages Mr. Watts to become successful. In her efforts, she challenges him to enter a writing contest in which he prevails because of the harsh realities of his experience. 3-Deep was written in the form of a Language Arts paper to epitomize the substance of teaching. Depicts the struggles of young black males in the streets of America. Highlights the problems of the culture as well as the solutions.
