About the Book

It´s a time of movement in America.  A time when the lure of free land, freedom from persecution, adventure, and open spaces calls them ever westward.  Maliya Kerns´ father brought his family to the New Mexico Territory, but he didn´t have the strength, wisdom or courage it would take to make it in what he considered an inhospitable land.  His daughter did.

Green eyed Maliya, born to poverty and want was destined to heart ache, loss, pain and loneliness beyond endurance.  Would she find the love she so desperately longed for, and a family of her own?  Would the dogma of religion keep her from peace and safety?   This is a story of a young girl´s journey into womanhood in a time when life was harsh at best.  And yet the goodness she gave to those around her would one day be returned in abundance.

About the Author

Desert Roses is Emma Anne Garrett’s first written novel. And yet, the stories and personalities that bring them to life have been dwelling within her mind since early childhood, but only since the advent of the wordprocessor and spell check, has she been able to put them on paper. Emma has two more novels waiting to be published and countless others waiting in the wings of her imaginative mind. She lives in Albuquerque New Mexico with her husband. They have seven children, twenty-four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her stories have filled hours of bedtime stories, travel boredom, and just homey family gatherings with laughter, tears and plain old good fun. "Writing, for me, is sheer pleasure." she says.
