About the Book

UNDER THE COTTONWOOD TREE offers a glimpse of bygone days in rural Nebraska early in the 20th century. It was a time when money was scarce, work was hard and turpentine was a cure-all.

This charming farm family survives by working together. The children are loveable, laughable, and sometimes mischievous. Raymond accepts manly responsibilities, but secretly longs for adventure. Cautious Mamie tries to keep Raymond out of trouble and sometimes falls into it herself. Little Flora hates going into the storm cellar when twisters threaten.

Here is a book for all ages from pre-teen to those who enjoy reminiscing.

About the Author

Zoa was born in 1900 in the small town of Miller, Nebraska. That rural area is the setting for this book. She learned early in life of hard times, hard work, the joy found in simple things and that humor made life easier. Zoa taught in a one room schoolhouse, where she developed a love of children’s literature. Her marriage blessed her with two daughters and one son. During the Depression the family moved west. They settled in California where she spent the remainder of her life. A very talented lady, she painted, played the organ, and wrote poetry and short stories.
