About the Book

Caught in the snare of the military draft in 1965, the author chronicles his Vietnam era experiences from joining the Marine Corps until his return from Vietnam. Written in the tradition of Ernie Pyle and Charles Johnson Post, C.W. Clark describes everyday life and events at officer candidate school, The Basic School attended by newly commissioned Marine officers, his first duty station at MCAS Yuma, Hawk missile training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and service in the Republic of Vietnam at the height of the war.


About the Author

Bill Clark left the Marine Corps in 1979. He returned to Yuma where he worked as a DA civilian at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground. He joined the local Arizona National Guard unit as a reservist in 1985 and trained as a combat military policeman. In 1987, Bill was selected to fill a cadre vacancy in Yuma’s 852 MP Company and returned to active duty. He deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1991 as the Rear Battle NCO with the 855 MP Company during Operation Desert Storm. Bill retired in 1995 and now serves as a Junior ROTC instructor.
